I purchased and used FCS Fluid Foils Hatchet Longboard Fin about 2 months ago and decided to write a review about my experiences with it thus far. In this FCS Fluid Foils Hatchet Longboard Fin Review, I will discuss how well it works, how durable it is, some minor drawbacks with it, and where to get the best deals when you buy it online.
By the end of this review, you should have a good idea as to whether the FCS Fluid Foils Hatchet Longboard Fin is right for you.
How It Works
Longboard fins help steer and control a surfboard. If you were to ride your board without a fin and then applied hard pressure to the tail section of the board, your board would try to slip out from under you. The reason your board would try to slip out from under you, it’s because there is nothing in the water that can counteract or redirect the applied pressure, hence one of the purposes of the fin.
The Longboard fin will also help you maintain your position on the face of a wave. Without the fin, your board would want to slide down the face of the wave.
The FCS Hatchet Fluid Foils Performance Glass longboard fin is a versatile performance single fin made with performance glass construction. Large surface area and upright shape provides added drive and promotes a longer turning arc.
Of course, the claims made by this product seems very impressive. But does it actually work as advertised? The rest of this review will be devoted to my experiences with using this product.
The FCS Fluid Foils Hatchet Longboard Fin is a long and wide fin. I thought the smoke color was nice and found the fin attractive, as far as fins go. The fin seemed well made, there were no blemishes, scratches or chips.
I used this fin on my 9’4” Surftech Mickey Munoz, which comes with a 2 +1 set-up. Using this fin, I was able to surf my board as a single fin. I found the board very stable on a wave and when I stepped back and applied pressure to the tail the board turned quickly in the direction I wished. I’m not a noserider, but found the board stable when I tried to walk up towards the nose.
As I stated previously, the fin is long and could get in the way when carrying this board in tight places. However, removal and installation of the fin, in the center fin box, was a breeze. I would remove the fin after each surf session and install it before a surf session.
What Others Think
“Perfect pivot fin for noseriders 9′ or longer. If you have your back foot over the fin a heavy longboard will turn on a dime. This fin will also hold your board in the pocket for long noserides. Great Price!”
“Great fin for single fin longboard. Perfect for long rides on the nose and great long pivot turns. Love the fin and can’t beat the price.”
