I purchased the FCS II Carver Performance Carbon Tri Fin Set a 1 year ago and decided to write a review about my experiences with it so far. In this FCS II Carver Performance Carbon Tri Fin Set Review, I will discuss how well it works, how durable it is, some minor drawbacks with it, and where to get the best deals when you buy it online. By the end of this review, you should have a good idea as to whether the FCS II Carver Performance Carbon Tri Fin Set is right for you.

How It Works

The FCS II Carver Performance Carbon Tri Fin Set are a set of fins that are designed for a thruster set-up and will only work with a board with FCS II fin slots.  The FCS II system allows you to install your fins without the need for tools.  Fins help the surfers control and steer their surfboard.

The FCS II Carver Performance Carbon Tri Fin Set claims to possess the following features:

  • Elongated fin for performing long arc turns.
  • High degree of sweep angle provides exceptional control off the bottom and when carving on the open face.
  • Designed for power surfers who like to push hard against their fins and draw out their turns.
  • IDEAL CONDITIONS: Open face, down-the-line waves, particularly good in point and reef breaks.
  • BOARD TYPES: Recommended for boards with deep concaves and moderate-to-extreme rocker.

Of course, the claims made by this product seems very impressive. But does it actually work as advertised? The rest of this review will be devoted to my experiences with using this product.

My Thoughts

The fins are well made and good looking.  Installing the fins were straight forward and removal was easy.  However, the fins are sharp so be careful when removing them, take your time.  The fins came in their own carrying case, which I found nice.

I surf at a beach break (click here to read my post on types of waves to surf), and found executing turns were great especially when I would push down hard on the tail.  I like the ability to install and remove the fins without the need for a surfboard fin key.  I’m one of those surfers who doesn’t like paddling to the shore if I don’t have too.

I was sitting on my board and waiting for a wave to catch to the shore, a wave I let pass, pushed my board rearward and the fins struck a rock that was hidden by the surf.  I was finally able to catch a wave in, and low and behold, when I reached the shore I was a missing fin.

You can’t buy a single fin, so, I had to purchase a whole new set.  Even though it defeats the purpose of having a tool less fins system, I would still install, at least one fin screw, when using these fins.

What Others Think

FCS II Carver Performance Carbon Tri Fin Set“The best fins I bought so far, they work really well.”

“I have it, and they are just perfect specially in big waves….I love it”

“Good quality. Awesome price. Very satisfied”

Pros and Cons

  • Great looking.
  • Easy to install.
  • Tool less installation.
  • Works well in all surf.

  • Pricey.
  • May lose fins, if fins are struck on a hard surface.
  • Only works with FCS II fin system.

In Conclusion

If you are looking for well made, easy to install, tool less surfboard fins that performs as expected, then the FCS II Carver Performance Carbon Tri Fin Set is the fin set for you.

  1. Great information. I live in Florida and try to get out as often as possible. Would love to get to some bigger waves someday. Do you have some recommendations on a decent board that will fit these?

  2. Hi sir Stuart
Nice review you’ve done here sir Stuart. Very informative, every details you used here in your review. Even I don’t know how to swim and surfing, after I read your article here and visit you’re website like I’m in to it 🙂
Thank you very much sir Stuart!

  3. I hadn’t thought about surfboards have removeable fins, so this was very interesting. It is too bad you can’t buy just one replacement fin. Nice article.

    • Hi Amanda, Yes, most surfboard fins are removable though in the early days they were not, if you’re interest you can read my post “Surfboard Fins Explained” for more information.

Thanks for the comments and dropping in!
